Gulches Rangers

Gulches Rangers

The park has a host of volunteer rangers who are there to give directions and see that the trails run smoothly. All of them are the most valuable assets of the park. Without the rangers, Gulches would not be near the park it is today. Our rangers are also there to tour “first timers” to the park. “Newbe’s”  follow in their vehicle behind one of our rangers as the they guide and instruct them through the park.  We have found this necessary because of the number of trails on a small piece of ground. When turned loose on their own without a tour a first timer to Gulches may miss as much as 50% of the park. The ranger will stop from time to time and explain different trails; their twists and turns. Once toured from end to end they are dropped to enjoy the park. There is no charge for this service.

Our Rangers

  • Dean Childress Dean Childress:
Dean has been our top ranger and has toured more first timers than any other ranger. In fact he tours the tour guides to teach other rangers the way we like to show off our park. He is an original member of the renegade 4x4 club who helped develop and complete several trails in the park. He has been my right arm and someone I am pleased to have as a friend.
  • Charlie and Shelly Charlie and Shelly Center:
Like Dean these two have always been there for our park.  Shelly has run the desk in the office and toured as many as her husband Charlie. Both are original members of the renegade 4x4 club and like Dean have been instrumental in the development of our trail system and park. I have always been able to count on them for anything the park has needed.
  • Miller McArthur Miller McArthur:
Miller has been with us since the beginning. Miller is one of our biggest supporters and can be seen conquering any of the Skull and Cross Bone trails on just about every weekend. When not putting on a show and pleasing a crowd of on lookers he is always there to tour someone.
  • Joseph Ricard Joseph Ricard:
Joseph has been with us for a couple of years and has been a great help in taking care of and policing our trails.  He works the desk and is called upon to tour folks.
  • Eric Redd Eric Redd:
On Eric’s first time in the park after we toured him we knew we owned him. No one has fallen in love with a hobby as fast and hard as Eric. For someone who really had very little trail experience he has developed his skill level to an extreme high rate in a very short time.
  • Art Lambert Art Lambert:
Art has been a ranger as long as Eric and like Eric is very good at it. With rigs and skill levels pretty much equal they have challenged each other in every event we have had. It was Cherokee vs. Wrangler.
  • Hal Hawkins Hal Hawkins:
Hal has come a long way as an off roader and has become an excellent tour guide. Always quick to help out, he is a valuable asset of the park.
  • David Jones David Jones:
These two rangers came on about the same time recently and have continued to be there to tour when called upon.
  • Kevin Howard Kevin Howard:
These two rangers came on about the same time recently and have continued to be there to tour when called upon.
  • Jon Reed Jon Reed
Jon has been a ranger with us for several years and recently is back active again. He knows the park as well as any of us and is a great asset here at Gulches.
